NSU Christmas Celebration Concert

NSU Christmas Celebration Concert

TAHLEQUAH The NSU Christmas Celebration concert will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, at Northeastern State University Center for the Performing Arts. The concert will feature holiday music showcasing the various components of the NSU music department. The concert will also serve as a fundraiser for the Music Scholarship Fund. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Reduced rates for groups of ten or more are also available. All proceeds will benefit the Scholarship Fund.

This is the third gala performance of its kind, involving ensembles from the music department: the University Chorus and the University Singers, conducted by Donald Studebaker; the Jazz Ensemble, directed by Arthur White; and a brass ensemble. According to Mark Bighley, chair of the Department of Performing Arts, this event builds on the success of previous performances.

"We have had very receptive audiences, and also had a lot of fun and pleasure in presenting a Christmas concert for the community," said Bighley. "At the same time, we also served deserving music students by raising money for the Music Scholarship Fund. This year's event will be even better."

Throughout the evening, the ensembles will perform various holiday pieces, including Benjamin Britten's "A Ceremony of Carols," Gustav Holst's "Christmas Day," Clement Clark Moore's "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," as well as an audience sing-a-long of Christmas favorites.
