Family of Aaron Kenneth Stern Creates Scholarship at NSU
TAHLEQUAH The family of a Northeastern State University graduate killed by a drunk driver earlier this year has created a scholarship to honor his memory.
The Aaron Kenneth Stern Endowed Memorial Scholarship was established by Aarons parents, Ken and Lois, sister and brother-in-law Janelle and Jared Wagner, and wife Stephanie Stern.
It is always difficult when a loved one passes, and the entire Stern family is dealing with a tragedy,
said John Gyllin, executive director of the NSU Foundation. We visited with the family and created a way to memorialize Aaron- one which will leave a positive legacy for so many students trying to better their lives. It is a testament to his life and will keep his memory alive in a wonderful way.
Aaron Kenneth Stern graduated from Northeastern in 2004 with a degree in business administration. He was the owner of Aarons Lawn Care Service in Sapulpa, Okla., and worked as a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He was a 1998 graduate of Stillwater High School and earned his associates degree from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa.
From early on, we decided establishing a scholarship would be a good way to recognize Aaron,
said Ken Stern. He worked hard all his life to accomplish his goals, success he would not have had without the support of the staff and faculty at Northeastern.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be a sophomore majoring in business administration with at least a 2.75 grade point average.
Our family appreciates the generous contributions of Oklahomans and family and friends across the United States to help us establish this fund in memory of Aaron,
said Ken Stern. The faculty at NSU encouraged him to work hard and provided him with academic services to ensure he graduated.
