Construction Projects On Track at NSU

TAHLEQUAH Several construction projects are currently underway at Northeastern State University, with several more scheduled to start in the new year.

The most extensive project is the remodel of the old Industrial Arts Building into the new Enrollment Management Center. Work on the facility began this past summer with a scheduled completion date of August 2008.

Basically, the only thing left is the frame of the old building, said Tim Foutch, assistant vice president for Administration. Were doing a complete and total rehaul of that facility, which will house many of the student enrollment services in one centralized location.

Boldt Construction was awarded the contract for the project, and has gutted the interior of the building, removed all windows and several exterior walls. Over the coming months, a new roof, windows, interior and exterior walls will be added to the building. The project is funded by the statewide higher education bond issue.

Work is ongoing on the exterior of Haskell Hall and Haskell Hall Annex. Under the management of Nabholz Construction, workers have completed masonry work to the exterior of the main building and will move on to the annex. Once completed, the two buildings will have new roofs and windows, along with repaired brick and mortar.

Renovations to the Education Building will begin in 2008, as faculty and staff from the College of Education are moved to offices in Haskell Hall. The remodel will include masonry restoration, a new roof and windows, interior work, the addition of an elevator, and updates to bathrooms, heating and air conditioning and plumbing. The project is anticipated for completion prior to fall 2008.

When students return to NSU in January, Pizza Hut Express will be located in Leoser Center. Also, plans are currently being put together for a remodel of the Food Court in the basement of the University Center during the summer of 2008.

The university is also in the process of assessing the Business and Technology building and Center for the Performing Arts to determine what repairs and renovations are necessary for those facilities.

At the Broken Arrow campus, design plans are underway for a food court, and work is ongoing in the banquet hall, reading lab and in office suites.
