NSU Offers Scholarships in Computer Science, Math

TAHLEQUAH High school seniors interested in a career in computer science or mathematics now have an opportunity to apply for one of 12 new scholarships at Northeastern State University.

Scholarship recipients will receive $8,500 per year for four years, with additional awards available for summer study. The exact award amount will be determined by the students level of financial need.

NSU computer science and mathematics students are thoroughly prepared for a wide variety of careers or for graduate work, said Dr. Rick Matzen, Associate Professor of Computer Science and the scholarship program coordinator. In addition to the financial awards, the scholarship students will get other valuable benefits including a faculty mentor to guide them through their four years at NSU and opportunities to participate in special academic, social, and career preparation activities. NSU has excellent career placement available for our students with services specifically for scholarship students.

To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must major in computer science or mathematics at NSU, begin college as a freshman in Fall 2008, demonstration financial need, have a minimum high school grade point average of 2.75, and be a U.S. citizen or meet residency requirements. Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis. The deadline for applications is April 1.

Funding for the scholarship program is provided by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
