Readers Theater, Silent Auction to Benefit Symposium

TAHLEQUAH The Northeastern State University Indian Heritage Committee will host Oklahomas History of Diverse Women Readers Theater and Silent Auction fundraiser on Thursday, March 6 at the Armory Municipal Center, 101 South Water, to support the 36th Annual Symposium on the American Indian.

The silent auction runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and includes a number of items donated from area businesses. The readers theater, featuring selections from Women Who Pioneered Oklahoma by Dr. Terri Baker and Connie Henshaw, will be held from 6:30 8 p.m. in the Armory Auditorium. A special reception and book signing will follow the readers theater. Admission is free and donations will be accepted at the door.

The Sun the Moon the Stars, Rhythms of Life, the 36th Annual Symposium on the American Indian is set for April 16-19, 2008 at NSU.

Featured speakers include Pulitzer Prize winning author/poet N. Scott Momaday, retired commander of the U.S. Navye and former NASA astronaut John Herrington, Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Jerry Elliott, Kiowa traditionalist Kelly Anquoe, documentary filmmaker Sara Barnett-Flores, Navajo cultural consultant Dr. David Begay, Coordinator for the the Pawnee Earth Lodge exhibit at the Field Museum of Chicago Mary Ann Bloom, award winning novelist and poet Robert Conley, Sioux traditionalist Warren Hawk, Assistant Site Manager and Public Relations Director for the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site William Iseminger, Founder and President of the Indigenous Education Institute Dr. Nancy Maryboy, Director of Indians into Psychology at the University of North Dakota Justin D. (Doug) McDonald, and Emeritus Professor of Anthropology and Linguistics at the University of Kansas Dr. Akira Yamamoto.
