Guest Artist to Join NSU Jazz Band for 2002-2003 Season Opener

TAHLEQUAH, OK - Saxophonist Jim Snidero will be the featured guest artist with the Northeastern State University Jazz Bands for the 2002-2003 Jazz Lab season opener on Thursday, October 3, at 8 p.m. A resident of New York since 1981, Snidero has earned the reputation as being one of the finest performers and educators active on todays jazz scene. Before the evening concert, Snidero will conduct a free clinic at 4 p.m., also at the NSU Jazz Lab.

As someone who has followed Jims career, I am particularly excited to have him work and perform with our bands, said Will Campbell, NSU director of Jazz Studies. He not only is a first-rate musician, but he has also made a tremendous impact on jazz education.

Snidero has recorded more than 10 CDs as a leader for various domestic and international labels, featuring some of todays best jazz artists. The New York Times called his solos dazzling, and Gary Giddins of the Village Voice called him a young altoist with a wonderfully aggressive broadsword of a sound, recalling Bird in its sheer jubilance. Snidero has been a member of the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra, the Mingus Big Band, Eddie Palmieris Latin Jazz Octet, and many others. He was also a member of Frank Sinatras Orchestra for four years, and can be heard on Sinatras Duets 2 (Capitol) recording.
