Celebrations To Honor President Williams Retirement

TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University will hold four events across the state of Oklahoma to honor President Dr. Larry Williams, who will retire in June.

Members of the NSU communities are invited to attend special receptions in Oklahoma City, Broken Arrow, and Muskogee and a finale dinner in Tahlequah to recognize the accomplishments of Dr. Williams during more than 40 years of service to Oklahoma higher education.

Williams began his administrative career in higher education in 1967 at Oklahoma State University. He later served as vice president for Administration at the University of Central Oklahoma, and was president of Southeastern Oklahoma State University for ten years before taking the helm at NSU in 1997.

The first reception to honor his retirement is scheduled Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Office of the Attorney General in the Capitol Building in Oklahoma City. The special event, held in conjunction with Higher Ed Day, is hosted by Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry, Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith, Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson, Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Chancellor Glen Johnson, Oklahoma Senate Co-President Pro-Tempore Glenn Coffee and BancFirst Corporation Chairman H.E. Rainbolt.

On Wednesday, March 5, from 5:30 7 p.m., a second reception will be held in Building A at the NSU Broken Arrow campus. The third reception will be held Thursday, March 27 at 6 p.m. in the Administrative Building Conference Center at NSU Muskogee.

The NSU Tahlequah Campus Dinner Finale (the only ticketed event) is set for Friday, April 11 at 6 p.m. in the Sen. Herb Rozell Ballroom of the University Center. Tickets for the event are a minimum donation of $25 per person, with corporate sponsorships available. All proceeds raised will go toward the Dr. Larry and Pam Williams Endowed Scholarship Fund.
