The Vision Care Institute Opens Satellite Learning Center
for NSUOCO at Broken Arrow

BROKEN ARROW The Vision Care Institute, LLC, is partnering with Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry, NSUOCO to extend professional-level training opportunities for optometry students with distance learning and live programming at the Broken Arrow campus.

The satellite learning centers provide a direct link between the main campus of The Vision Care Institute in Jacksonville, Fla., and optometry schools, enhancing students experiences with even more information and skills useful for their careers, says Richard Clompus, O.D., FAAO, director of The Vision Care Institute, LLC. Educational programming at the satellite centers include distance learning programs for first- through fourth-year optometry students, using video conferencing technologies from the Jacksonville headquarters Additional satellite centers will be built at other optometry schools in the future.

The Vision Care Institute, LLC, a Johnson & Johnson company, is an innovative professional resource for optometry students and recent graduates. Headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla., the state-of-the-art facility gives participants a rare opportunity to experience the latest in vision diagnostic and treatment technologies through hands-on instruction, including training on contact lens fitting and prescribing.

Working in tandem with leading optometry schools and colleges since its launch in March 2004, The Vision Care Institute has hosted more than 2,500 students from all 19 of the schools and colleges of optometry throughout North America. Sister facilities of The Vision Care Institute in China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Czech Republic offer eye care specialists around the world an opportunity to learn of new developments in the field under the leadership of top contact lens specialists.

The Vision Care Institute, LLC satellite learning center at the Broken Arrow Campus of Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry is the key link in completing the connection of the NSU state-of-the-art campuses. This link also ties the remote rural constituents to the urban metroplex. Continuing education and new knowledge and skills are now accessible as never before, said Dr. George Foster, Dean of NSU-OCO. The satellite learning center allows all the various college and professional constituents to hold important meetings and conferences without leaving home. I anticipate a high demand for its use by faculty and students and that it will help promote professional private practice for our graduates. The generosity of The Vision Care Institute, LLC is overwhelming in the magnitude of support given to the schools and colleges of Optometry and for that I am most grateful.

NSUOCO provides an educational environment conducive to learning, motivates students to make a commitment to life-long learning, and challenges students to contribute to society through community involvement. NSUOCO students experience over 40,000 patient encounters every year. NSUOCO is Oklahomas only college of optometry and one of 17 in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
