TAHLEQUAH Imagine seamlessly combing tap dance, live music and vintage film clips and youll find yourself at Northeastern State University for The Souls of Our Feet: A Celebration of American Tap Dance.
The National Endowment for the Arts American Masterpiece: Dance Initiative, administered by the New England Foundation for the Arts, is bringing The Souls of Our Feet to the NSU Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. at part of the Sequoyah Institutes 22nd Annual Galaxy of Stars Series.
This show is a fast-paced collection of footwork, restaging the best rhythm tap masterpieces,
said Megan White, director of The Sequoyah Institute. Come feel the rhythm of the music and watch the extraordinary talents of these marvelous performers.
Tapestry Dance Company, under the direction of internationally acclaimed tap artist Acia Gray, tours The Souls of Our Feet: A Celebration of American Tap Dance accompanied by the live music of the Eddy Hobizal Jazz Trio.
This incredible celebration of classic and contemporary tap dance masterpieces features historical works of Bill "Bogangles" Robinson, Charles "Honi" Coles, The Condos Brothers, The Nicholas Brothers, Miller Brothers & Lois, Eddie Brown, Buster Brown, The Copasetics and Leon Collins as well as the reconstructed works of contemporaries such as Sarah Petronio, Brenda Bufalino and Dianne Walker among others.
A one-of-a-kind production of traditional choreographic classics from master artists of tap's heyday, signature works by contemporary masters as well as the best of jazz-tap improvisation.
Tickets for The Souls of Our Feet are $20 for adults, $18 for NSU alumni, $16 for NSU employees, $14 for senior citizens, $12 for groups of 10 or more, $10 for students and children, and $5 for NSU students.
