Tap Legend To Teach Masterclass

TAHLEQUAH Respected rhythm tap dancer Acia Gray will teach a masterclass dance at Melissa Weeks Dance Studio in conjunction with the performance of The Souls of Our Feet: A Celebration of American Tap Dance, presented by the Sequoyah Institute at Northeastern State University.

Acia Gray is the co-founder of the Tapestry Dance Company located in Austin, Texas and serves as the artistic director. Gray has toured extensively across the United States and internationally to England, Cyprus, Spain, Brazil, Austria, Canada, Ireland and the Czech Republic.

Gray has worked with tap artists such as Gregory Hines, Savion Glover, Brenda Bufalino and Fayard Nicholas. She was one of 12 dancers chosen to work with the late tap legend Charles Honi Coles at the Colorado Dance Festival.

We are excited to have such a talented and internationally known artist such as Acia Gray working one-on-one with some of the young dancers in our community, said Megan White, director of the Sequoyah Institute. Being able to connect legendary artists with aspiring talents is very rewarding.

The performance of The Souls of Our Feet will take place at the NSU Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Sequoyah Institutes 22nd Annual Galaxy of Stars Series. Tickets for The Souls of Our Feet are $20 for adults, $18 for NSU alumni, $16 for NSU employees, $14 for senior citizens, $12 for groups of 10 or more, $10 for students and children, and $5 for NSU students.
