Family Weekend At NSU
Family Weekend At NSU
TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University is bringing families and students together for the NSU Family Circus on April 24-26 in Tahlequah.
Our goal is to bring NSU students and families together to celebrate how important family support is to the success of the university and our students,
said Kate Abad, director of Campus Involvement. We have a weekend packed with events at our Tahlequah campus to show families what life is like for students at Northeastern.
The weekend kicks off on Thursday, April 24 with an art show from 4-7 p.m. at the NSU Gallery in historic downtown Tahlequah. At 5:30 p.m., event-goers can head down to Norris Park for a game of Ultimate Frisbee or join exercisers for the Red Fern Festival event, Walk This Weigh, on the new walking trail. Then join Arthur White and the NSU Jazz Ensemble for the Jazz on the Lawn Concert at 6 p.m.
Also on Thursday evening, the Northeastern Activities Board will host Aprilpalooza featuring Stephen Speaks at 7 p.m. at Beta Field. This is an outdoor concert and festival that is free and open to the public.
Events continue on Friday, April 15 when the NSU RiverHawks take on the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos in baseball action at 2 p.m. From 4-5:30 p.m. students will have a chance to introduce their families to their professors at the Colleges Reception in the NET Building Tower.
From 5:30-9 p.m., students can bring their families to the basement of the University Center for some fun, with bowling, pool, video games, movies and more offered. Parents will also get the chance to see the over 300 students being honored at the Honors and Awards Ceremony set for 7:30 p.m. in the NSU Center for the Performing Arts.
The Family Circus begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 with a special invitation-only Student Leader Breakfast, hosted by Laura Boren, dean of Student Affairs. At 10:30 a.m. NSU will honor Outstanding Seniors, Hall of Fame inductees, and the First Year Experience Top 10 Freshmen at the ceremony in Ballroom C of the University Center.
Anyone ready for a little tailgating can move out to the parking lot at Gable Field at 11:30 a.m., where festivities are planned prior to the Green and White Football Game at 2 p.m. Events include a silent auction and Football Field Day hosted by the NSU football players for little NSU family members. Tailgating festivities are capped off by Rowdy the RiverHawks Birthday Party at 1 p.m. Bring a book donation to celebrate Rowdys birthday. Books will be donated to local children in need.
During halftime of the Green and White scrimmage, the 2008 NSU Family of the Year will be presented.
In addition, families can also catch a baseball game at 1 p.m. as NSU again takes on UCO or a game of softball at 2 p.m. as NSU takes on Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
The Best Western in Tahlequah is offering a special NSU Family Weekend Rate for Friday and Saturday nights. For reservations, call 918-458-1818 or 1-800-780-7234.
