Founder of KIPP Tulsa College Preparatory Academy Featured Speaker at NSU Black Student Achievement Awards

TAHLEQUAH KIPP Tulsa College Preparatory Academy Founder and Principal Millard L. House II is the featured speaker at the annual Northeastern State University Black Student Achievement Awards on Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in the Redbud Room of the University Center.

Millard, a Tulsa native, has spent over 12 years in public education. He earned his bachelors degree from the University of Montevallo in Alabama and his Master of Science in School Administration from NSU. Millard recently graduated from the Fisher School Leadership Program in the Haas School of Business at the University of California Berkeley and is pursuing a doctorate in School Administration.

Before starting KIPP, Millard was principal at Marian Anderson Elementary School, serving as one of the youngest Public School Administrators in the country at age 26. Under his leadership, Marian Anderson went from one of the lowest performing schools in Oklahoma to one of the highest performing minority schools in the state.

Millard has earned several recognitions including Principal of the Year, Outstanding Administrator of the Year and was featured in Ebony Magazine as one of the top leaders in the country under 30 years of age.

The NSU Black Heritage Committee sponsors the annual Black Student Achievement Awards, honoring more than 100 black undergraduate and graduate students and five student organizations for academic achievement and outstanding contributions to the university community.

The program is free to the public.
