McAlester Scottish Rite, NSU Partner for Speech and Language Clinic
MUSKOGEE The McAlester Scottish Rite and Northeastern State University will host a dedication for the McAlester RiteCare Outreach Speech and Language Clinic on Tuesday, April 29 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the NSUMuskogee campus.
The partnership between the McAlester Scottish Rite and Northeastern State University will provide an invaluable service to children in the Muskogee area,
said John Gyllin, director of Development. Our students also benefit through the professional experiences they gain while working in the clinic.
The clinic, located in the Muskogee campus Administration Building, will be open one day a week to provide free services to children with speech, language and reading development delays from age 18 months through 11 years.
The clients will be seen by graduate students in our Speech Language Pathology department under the direct supervision of a licensed speech language pathologist,
said Dr. Karen Patterson, professor and department chair of Speech Language Pathology. All services provided are free of charge due to the financial support of the McAlester Scottish Rite with space and personnel provided by NSU.
The Scottish Rite is the leading private benefactor for Childhood Language Disorders in the United States. Communication disorders are the most common problem for children, affecting more than all other disorders combined.
