Fountain Construction Nears Completion

The Garrison Memorial Fountain is once again operational after repairs were completed this month.
TAHLEQUAH Construction is nearly complete on the The Garrison Memorial Fountain in Dr. Harrell Edmund Garrison Plaza, located between the University Center and the Business and Technology Building on the campus of Northeastern State University.
The fountain is operating for the first time in several years, though some utility work is still being completed, said Joe Spence, director of the NSU Physical Plant.
Spence expects all work on the fountain to be finished by the end of June.
The plaza, originally constructed in 1972, was named after Garrison, who served as president of NSU from 1951 to 1970. He died of heart attack in 1972, and the plaza was dedicated to his memory the following year.
The original fountain featured rotating red, amber and turquoise light illuminating the water. The new fountain features only one color, though a different colored bulb can be placed to fit the occasion, said Spence.
