NSU Offers Computer Science Courses At Broken Arrow

BROKEN ARROW Northeastern State University is now enrolling students in two new Computer Science courses at the Broken Arrow campus.

The NSU College of Science and Health Professions will offer Intermediate Programming in C++ and Network Security on Tuesday and Thursday evening during the Fall 2008 semester.

We are pleased to offer these courses which students can either apply toward a degree in Computer Science or can use directly in their career, said Rick Matzen, associate professor and chair of the NSU Computer Science program. The increasing demand for computer science graduates, the creative environment of the Broken Arrow campus, its location, and its state-of-the-art facility give us a great opportunity to bring a quality education in Computer Science to the greater Tulsa area.

Both courses offer practical experience in the field of Computer Science. The Intermediate Programming course is offered to students who have completed a two-course sequence in computer programming. Students will review and expand upon programming topics covered in introductory programming courses.

Demand for Computer Science graduates exceeds supply in the U.S, and many key employers of Computer Science graduates from Oklahoma have expressed concern that they cant find enough graduates in CS to meet their needs. According to U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer software engineering is one of the fastest growing jobs over the next decade.

The universitys Computer Science program has been educating computer scientists and software professionals since 1982. The Computer Science major offers courses that provide a rigorous education in both the theoretical and applied aspects of computer science. To meet the needs of students, courses are offered in a wide variety of current topics, including software engineering, databases, computer game programming, Networking, Security, Web Programming, JAVA, C++, C#, and many others.

Classes start Thursday, Aug. 21. More enrollment information, contact Dr. Rick Matzen at matzen@nsuok.edu or Dr. Darryl Linde at 918-444-3809.
