'Idol' Conversation: NSU Carrie Watch Officially Debuts February 22 & 23 February 18

Join the Northeastern State University community as they cheer on their NSU Star - Carrie Underwood - as she competes in the next round of the Fox Network television show, American Idol. The NSU Carrie Watch & Voting Party will be held February 22, in the NET Auditorium. Family, friends, and well-wishers can cheer on NSU-s own and cast their vote for Carrie. Courtesy phones will be available. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

The NSU Carrie Watch resumes on Wednesday, February 23, in the NET Auditorium. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Family, friends, and fans can join the Northeastern community as they watch the American Idol results and cheer Carrie on to the next round.

-Northeastern could not be more excited for this talented, young woman,- said NSU President Dr. Larry Williams. -Like proud parents, the entire Northeastern community has watched Carrie-s talents blossom - both as a gifted entertainer and scholar. Northeastern is proud to have her as part of their family.-

NSU Star. A senior mass communications major at Oklahoma-s premier regional university, Underwood is regarded by her NSU professors as "bright, capable, and energetic." She made her debut on Northeastern stages as a two-time competitor in the Miss NSU Scholarship Pageant (2002, 2003), placing in the top three each year including the First Runner Up and Overall Talent Winner in 2002. Underwood was also a regular cast member of the NSU Repertory Company-s Downtown Country Show (Summer 2003, 2004) and the Downtown Country Christmas Show. Off the stage, she took a turn behind the camera, serving as producer of The "Quah," Northeastern-s student-produced television program. Underwood also wrote articles for The Northeastern, NSU-s award-winning student newspaper. An active member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority at NSU, she wants to pursue a career in broadcasting.

Plans are in place to host events weekly for the duration of Underwood-s participation. At press time, Carrie Underwood was ranked in the top 24 performers for American Idol.
