NSU Trombone Recital – Sept. 10
(Tahlequah, Okla.)--Dr. Norman Wika, associate professor of music at Northeastern State University, will perform at his trombone recital, accompanied by Farren Mayfield on the piano, on Sept. 10 at the Center for Performing Arts on the Tahlequah Campus.
The recital will feature a wide range of literature meant to showcase the various facets of the trombone.
According to Wika, Ferdinand Davids Concertino and Guy Ropartzs Piece were originally composed as test pieces for the Paris Conservatory and Michael Colgrass Mystic with a Credit Card explores both the intimate and barbaric side of the trombone while fusing jazz and Indian classical music.
Wika said the recital will also feature C.P.E. Bachs Sonata, which was originally written for flute.
The recital will conclude with American composer Arthur Frackenpohls Variations on a March of Shostakovich, a tongue-in-cheek set of variations that explore different styles of trombone playing.
The concert will begin at7 p.m. and is open to the public at no cost.
