NSUBA Offers Computer Science Courses For Spring Semester

BROKEN ARROW Northeastern State University is offering two Computer Science courses at the Broken Arrow campus during the spring semester, CS 4103 - Computer Networks and CS 4343 - Database Management Systems).

The courses meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and are taught by full time NSU Computer Science faculty. Credit for these courses can be applied toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science at NSU. Pending community demand and administrative approval, this degree may be offered at the Broken Arrow campus in the future.

We are pleased to offer Computer Science courses that students can apply toward a degree in Computer Science or can use directly in their career, said Dr. Rick Matzen, associate professor and chair of the Computer Science program. The increasing demand for computer science graduates, the creative environment of the Broken Arrow campus, its location, and its state-of-the-art facility give us a great opportunity to bring a quality education in computer science to the greater Tulsa area.

Demand for computer science graduates exceeds supply in the U.S, and many key employers of computer science graduates from Oklahoma have expressed concern that they cant find enough graduates to meet their needs.

According to U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer software engineers are one of the occupations projected to grow the fastest and add the most new jobs over the 2006-16 decade. Excellent job prospects are expected for applicants with at least the bachelors degree in computer engineering or computer science and with practical work experience. Computer software engineers must continually strive to acquire new skills in conjunction with the rapid changes that occur in computer technology.

The newly offered courses will be a continuation of the success of NSUs Computer Science program, which has been educating computer scientists and software professionals since 1982. The major offers a rigorous education in both the theoretical and applied aspects of computer science. To meet the needs of students, courses are offered in a wide variety of current topics including software engineering, databases, computer game programming, networking, security, web Programming, JAVA, C++, C#, and many others.

Students can now begin enrolling for classes. Classes start Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009.
