NSU Enrollment Team Works to Aid Students

TAHLEQUAH A team of administrators, faculty and staff at Northeastern State University have been hard at work during the past few months to get students enrolled for classes at the institution.

Composed of representatives from each of NSU colleges, Enrollment Services, First Year Experience, High School and College Relations, Financial Aid, Career Services, Reach Higher, Veterans Office and Student Affairs, this group has been traveling across northeast Oklahoma to educate students on the educational opportunities available at NSU and to make the transition to the university as seamless as possible.

The semester you choose to start college is not critical in nature for the most part, said Bill Nowlin, director of Admissions at NSU. Most of our programs do not require students to begin in the fall semester. If its the right time in your life to further your education, the best time to start is now.

The NSU enrollment team recently hosted NSU Nite at the Broken Arrow campus to aid students from Tulsa Community College make the transition from the two-year institution to the four-year institution, and attended a job fair in Pryor for laid-off Labinal employees to inform people of the educational opportunities available through Northeastern.

Classes for the Spring 2009 semester begin Wednesday, Jan. 14, with enrollment continuing through Tuesday, Jan. 20.

With the economy in a state of turmoil, Nowlin stresses now may be the ideal opportunity for people to consider furthering their education.

Often times, when the economy is bad, students choose to go back to school to further their education because there are fewer jobs available, said Nowlin. They can improve their qualifications for positions that need people who trained in specific fields.

Financial aid opportunities are available to help defer the cost of attending NSU. The Office of Student Financial Services offers assistance in helping locate financial aid through scholarships, grants and loans. Earning a bachelors degree opens a lot of doors for you, no matter what you get your degree in, said Nowlin. There are a lot of jobs out there where you just have to have a degree to be qualified. The companies will train you for the position they need.
