Kappa Mu Epsilon Hosts Fall 2008 Initiation

TAHLEQUAH The Oklahoma Alpha Chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon at Northeastern State University recently inducted 12 students into the honor society during a special ceremony on the Tahlequah campus.

The new initiates of Kappa Mu Epsilon include:

Kaiti L. Smith, Broken Arrow
Katherine A. Thompson, Owasso

Representing the NSU faculty at the initiation were Dr. Joan E. Bell, Dr. Darryl Linde, Dr. Mark Buckles, Dr. Larry Bell, Randy Snider and Max Ellis, along with emeriti faculty Dr. Herbert Monks and Dr. David Fitzgerald. Tahlequah City Councilor and NSU Alumnus Maurice Turney, a member of KME since 1945, and his wife, Clarice, were also in attendance.

Kappa Mu Epsilon is a national mathematics honor society, founded in 1931 at NSU. It recognizes outstanding achievement in the study of mathematics at the undergraduate level. The organization has 129 chapters and approximately 61,000 members in 34 states. Since 1931, 1,657 students and faculty members have been initiated into NSUs Oklahoma Alpha chapter of KME.

Dr. Joan E. Bell, professor of Mathematics at NSU serves at the faculty sponsor for Kappa Mu Epsilon. Current officers of the chapter for 2008-2009 are President Caleb Knowlton, Stigler; Vice-president Aaron LaBounty, Warner; Secretary Callie Wilson, Rose; and Treasurer Angela Arnold, Gore.
