Regional Winner Named in Poetry Out Loud Competition

TAHLEQUAH Three area high school students recently participated in Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition held at Northeastern State University. The students competing were Christina Williams, Sapulpa High School, Erin Bridwell, Edison Preparatory School in Tulsa, and Stan Harris, Pryor High School.

Williams, who was named the winner, will attend the state finals at Oklahoma City University, where she will compete with against other regional finalists from across the state.

Susan Semrow, instructor of English, Joe Suse, instructor of English, and Dr. David Linebarger, associate professor of Humanities, served as judges. The contest was sponsored by the NSU Department of Languages and Literature and the NSU Department of Humanities.

Poetry Out Loud involves high school students in understanding and reciting poetry written by published poets. The initiative is organized by the Oklahoma Humanities Council, with funding through the National Endowment for the Arts.
