NSU Dances Through the Decades During Homecoming

TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University dances through the decades during 2008 Homecoming Week scheduled for Sept. 28 to Oct. 4.

The annual celebration, including reunions, parties and a parade, will culminate with the NSU RiverHawks football game against Texas A&M Commerce Lions and post-game festivities at Come Home to the Dome.

The weeks activities kick off on Sunday, Sept. 28 when students, alumni and community members gather in Norris Park at 12:30 p.m. for Paint the Town Green. Participants help local businesses show their NSU spirit by decorating the downtown area for the weeks events.

People will be dancing in the streets of downtown Tahlequah on Monday, Sept. 29 during the annual Street Party from 6-9 p.m. Muskogee Avenue between Goingsnake and Morgan will be blocked off for an evening of music, games and food.

Live music and free ice cream are just part of the appeal of the Circle Drive Concert Pre-Float Float Party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Take a break from the busy workday to meet students, faculty, staff and alumni and hear some great music and ice cream floats.

NSU alumni, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to participate in the annual golf tournament, held this year at the Muskogee Country Club on Friday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person and may be purchased by contacting the NSU Foundation at 918-444-4200.

Toast to a Homecoming victory and relax with a few games of Bingo during Champagne Bingo, hosted by Susanne Betz on Friday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Presidents Home backyard. Relax with friends while drinking champagne and try to win some great prizes. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased through the NSU Foundation.

Rally your friends and head out to Beta Field for the school pep rally and bonfire on Friday night from 7:30-9 p.m. Show your pride and wear green to get ready for Saturdays game.

Afterwards, kick back at the Friday Night Main Event at Town Branch Bar & Grill. An evening of entertainment, drinks and live karaoke begins at 9 p.m.

On game day, grab a hearty breakfast with the NSU Athletic Association Homecoming Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the Sen. Herb Rozell Ballroom located in the University Center. The event is open to former and current NSU athletes and guests.

While waiting for the festivities to start, take a self-guided tour of the NSU campus. Pick up a copy of the tour brochure in the UC Lobby or Seminary Hall Foyer and see campus at your leisure.

No homecoming celebration in Tahlequah is complete without a parade. The NSU Homecoming parade kicks off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4. Catch NSU fever while marching or watching this awesome display of school spirit as the NSU cheering section makes its way to Gable Field.

The Tailgate Party runs from noon to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Doc Wadley Stadium. Bring your own grill or snack your way through vendor concessions. Kids can enjoy games and face painting, while parents catch up with friends under the Green and White tent. A special reception will be held for all former NSU Homecoming Kings and Queens in the Green and White Room at Doc Wadley Stadium at 1 p.m.

Kick off for the Homecoming game against Texas A&M Commerce is at 3 p.m. The champion 1958 football team will be recognized during pre-game festivities and the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at halftime.

After the game, join NSU fans at the third annual Come Home to the Dome post-game celebration. Dance the night away, relive the best plays of the game, enjoy some excellent food and play games with the kids.
