Auditions Set For NSU Stars In The Summer Series

TAHLEQUAH The Northeastern State University Stars in the Summer Series will hold professional auditions for the River City Players and Downtown Country on Saturday, March 7.

River City auditions will begin at 11 a.m. at the Shawnee Street Theater, located at the intersection of Downing and College, and Downtown Country auditions start at 10 a.m. at the NSU Playhouse at the intersection of Downing and Muskogee.

Those auditioning for River City should prepare 32 bars of an upbeat oldies/rock song and 32 bars of a ballad. Piano and CD accompaniment will be available, but participants will not be able to use a CD with vocals. Dance auditions are scheduled later that day at 3 p.m.

Vocalists auditioning for Downtown Country should prepare one fast and one slow country song and must provide their own accompaniment such as CD, tape, or live accompanist. A capella singing is discouraged.

Band auditions will begin at 3 p.m. Instrumentalists should pick up a band packet containing specific musical selections, which will be used in the audition. Comedians and specialty acts should prepare an audition that best showcases your talents.

Auditions will also be open to artists who want to perform one or more times during the summer season as vocalists, dancers or other specialty acts. They must come prepared with three country songs, dance numbers or sets.

Rehearsals begin May 26, with the shows running June 18 through Aug. 8. Performances are scheduled Thursday through Saturday nights and Saturday afternoons. All performers must be available for all performances and the entire rehearsal period. These are paid positions.
