NSU Science and Technology Seminar begins Sept. 9

(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- Through its Department of Natural Sciences, Northeastern State University has announced the lineup of speakers for its fall 2015 Science and Technology Seminar Series. The series is arranged by Dr. John de Banzie, professor of biology.

I am excited to be organizing the seminar series again because it brings research scientists in a variety of fields to our campus giving an opportunity for our students, faculty, and the wider community to learn first-hand about important new scientific advances and the process of scientific research," de Banzie said.

The series begins Sept. 9 and continues every otherWednesday. Each seminar starts at3 p.m. in the Science building, Room 160.

The series schedule, topics and speakers:

  • Sept. 9 Interactions BetweenCoxiella burnetiiand its Host Cell During Infection. Dr. Edward Shaw, Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Oklahoma State University.
  • Sept. 23 Immunoregulation During Malaria. Dr. Noah Butler, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
  • Oct. 7 Endangered Geckos and Limbless Lizards: Integrative Studies of Evolutionary Diversifications in an Island Archipelago System. Dr. Cameron Siler, Department of Biology, University of Oklahoma.
  • Oct. 21 Neuroimaging in Anxiety and Mood Disorders: Clinical Implications. Dr. Robin Aupperle, Laureate Institute for Brain Research, Tulsa.
  • Nov. 4 From Molecules to Landscapes: Biodiversity Conservation in a Changing World. Dr. Marlis Douglas, Department of Biological Sciences, University of Arkansas.
  • Nov. 18 Ecological Residency State Influences Community Analysis and Applications. Jason Bried, Department of Integrative Biology, Oklahoma State University.

Speakers for the seminars are suggested by members of the NSU faculty.

"There is no charge for the seminars and they are open to all who wish to attend," de Banzie said. "The only requirement is curiosity. If anyone has questions they are welcome to contact me."
