ISDC presents seminar focused on lifelong-effectiveness

(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- Kin Thompson, assistant professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Northeastern State University, is no stranger to Stephen R. Coveys 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

OnWednesday, Sept. 16, the Indigenous Scholar Development Center will be hosting Thompson, who will be leading a book review and discussion on the book that has been read by millions over the last 25 years.

More than two decades ago, Thompson picked up a copy of the book, but as timing would have it, he never made it through it in its entirety. Fast forward 10 years, and Thompson found himself being asked to overview the book for Leadership Tahlequah due to a speaker who was unable to attend. Knowing he needed to know the book inside and out, Thompson dove in, reading it cover to cover.

Today, Thompson has presented and hosted discussions on the book for a vast array of audiences that have ranged from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to the Oklahoma Tourism Association to Student Leadership retreats with groups like the Northeastern Student Government Association.

The ISDC chose this book as the topic of discussion based both on its success and for the impact they hope for it to have on the students who attend.

Kin gives an enthusiastic and inspiring overview of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and its obvious to anyone that he has complete buy-in with the subject, Becky Clovis, coordinator of scholarship development for ISDC said.

Students at NSU cant help but benefit from his presentation of this iconic book. This topic is very easy to sell since its so universal and applicable to students, but Kins engaging and dynamic personality just makes it that much more enjoyable.

Thompson explained that his discussion will give broad strokes of how the book fits into the lives of the students, and within his discussion, he plans to sprinkle in several exercises to get the students talking.

Ive never had someone say, No, I just don't agree, in all the presentations Ive given on this book. Every time Ive shared it, its been so well received, Thompson said.

Through his discussion, he hopes that students will understand the concepts that build in the book and his final hope is that students will buy and read the book, and that in the end, they will gain a general and endless enthusiasm for reading, growing and learning.
