NSU to welcome loved ones for Family Weekend 2015 – Sept. 18, 19

(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- Northeastern State Universitys annual Family Weekend will beSept. 18 and 19. This weekend will provide numerous opportunities for NSU students to invite their families to Tahlequah to be a part of the NSU community.

A full list of options are available for those able to come in to town early. Families can visit the Cherokee Heritage Center located on Keeler Drive, south of Tahlequah in Park Hill. The center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Adult admission tickets are good for the Cherokee Heritage Center Museum, Outdoor Village or Grounds and the Diligwa.

For those looking to get gameday ready, RiverHawks gear can be found at the NSU RiverHawk Shoppe on the first floor of the University Center or in the downtown area. Merchants at downtown shops will have promotional sales and incentives for those visiting their stores. NSU Parent Association members can present their membership card and receive the 20 percent discount toward the purchase of sportswear and gift items at the RiverHawk Shoppe.

The NSU Parent Association has also partnered with downtown Tahlequah merchants for a scholarship drawing. After exploring each store, participants are asked to register at each location. During halftime of the football game onSaturday, Sept. 19the winner will be announced and receive a $500 cash scholarship, a large YETI cooler or three large YETI tumblers. The more shops an individual visits, the more chances to win.

Friday

The NSU Parent Association will be hosting a reception for all families from5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday event at the Holiday Inn located at 2142 Mahaney Avenue. To make reservations for the reception, emailnsuparents@nsuok.edu.

Saturday

Brunch and Brushes is an event hosted by the NSU Panhellenic Council that will begin at10 a.m.in the University Center Ballroom. This is an art experience that will be instructed by Dena, owner of Sip-n-Dip. The $35 cost for Parent Association members and $45cost for non-members includes a commemorative champagne flute, supplies and an assortment of breakfast treats. Pre-registration is required. Football tailgating at Doc Wadley Stadium will begin at 1 p.m. and kick-off of the NSU RiverHawks Football game against the Missouri Western Griffons at Gable Field will begin at2:30 p.m.

A hamburger and hotdog lunch will be available for Parent Association members and will be $5 per person for non-Parent Association members. Reservations for lunch can be made atwww.nsuok.edu/familyweekend.

For NSU Parent Association members, up to two adults per family can be admitted for $5 per person. An NSU Parent Association ID must be presented at the Ticket Booth when purchasing tickets.

Halftime will include the scholarship winner announcement, as well as the NSU Family of the Year presentation. NSU students have nominated their family for this honor by submitting an essay.

As a member of the NSU Parent Association, there are discounts offered on several of the weekends events, including hotel stays. When booking reservations, be sure to mention membership and present the Parent Association ID card at check-in. Participating hotels include the Holiday Inn Express, Quality Inn, Econo Lodge and Days Inn.
