NSU Music Department hosts guest piano recital – Sept. 20

(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- OnSunday, Sept. 20, at3 p.m.the Northeastern State University Department of Music will host a recital featuring guest pianist, Scott Carrell, at the NSU Center for Performing Arts in Tahlequah.

Carrell will be performing an original program titled, The Magic of the Piano. The recital will showcase the beauty and color of the modern piano, including the brilliant third sonata of Frederic Chopin and Carrells own composition, Crossings, which was inspired by an Arkansas artists painting of two railroads crossing Main Street in a rural, Mississippi Delta town.

Currently a professor of music and the coordinator of piano studies at Harding University, Carrell has an extensive background in piano, having studied with internationally known artists such as Drusilla Huffmaster, Ian Hobson and Vladimir Viardo. Throughout his career, he has performed with numerous orchestras that include the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra, the Little Rock Wind Orchestra and the Fort Worth Civic Orchestra.

Im excited that an artist like Carrell is coming in, Dr. Ronaldo Chioldi, professor of piano at NSU said. Its a unique recital because hes doing one of his own pieces, and thats not done a whole lot.

This recital is free and open to the public.
