(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- The Northeastern State University Wind Ensemble will give its first performance of the season on Thursday, Oct. 1 entitled Far, Far Away.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. and takes place in the NSU Center for Performing Arts.
As its title suggests, the concerts theme focuses on music based on the science fiction genre.
It opens with Star Wars Trilogy, composed by John Williams and arranged by Donald Hunsberger.
It also features the Imperial March, Princess Leias Theme, The Battle in the Forest, Yodas Theme and the Main Title Theme.
The concert will conclude with Johan De Meijs Symphony No. 1 from the Lord of the Rings. This is a musical depiction of the epic tale by author J.R.R. Tolkien.
The Wind Ensemble is conducted by Dr. Norman Wika, associate music professor, and is made up of the top woodwind, brass and percussion students at NSU. This ensemble is dedicated to performing the best in wind band literature.
This concert will appeal to anybody who loves science fiction, because this music tells stories through sound, Wika said.
