(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- Caleb Cline, a vocal music performance major at Northeastern State University, is the 2015 recipient of the Lou Summers Vocal Music Scholarship.

Cline, a sophomore, said he did not see it coming.

It was one of those things that happened out of nowhere. I didn't expect it, he said, adding he was grateful to be chosen.

Cline will receive a monetary scholarship for his sophomore year to help with cost of school.

Dr. Robert Daniel, music professor at NSU, said all three voice/choral faculty members voted for Cline as a candidate for the scholarship based on his high quality work.

Caleb is a fine steward in the department and liked by all. He is indeed an asset to the music program, Daniel said.

The scholarship was established by Lloyd and Linda Spyres in honor of Linda Spyres late mother, Zelma Lou Summers, a former voice major.

Recipients are recommended by the vocal music faculty, reviewed by a committee and selected by the chair of the NSU Music Department.

I appreciate the faculty and staff for this, I am learning and growing in the program, Cline said.

After graduation in a few years, the 19-year-old plans to use his voice for his true calling- working as a pastor in a church.
