NSU Music Department shows off students, faculty voices

(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- As many concert goers have seen this semester, the Northeastern State University Music Department is jam-packed with vocal talent this year. With concerts and performances taking place on a regular weekly basis, there is surely a show for everyone out there.

Dorea Cook, Faculty Recital

OnFriday, Oct. 2, at7 p.m.the NSU Department of Music will host a voice recital featuring faculty member, Dorea Cook, mezzo soprano, at the NSU Center for Performing Arts in Tahlequah.

Cook will be performing arias and art songs. She will be accompanied by Farren Mayfield, piano and Kristyn Son, flute. Featured music will include rarely performed 18thcentury Italian arias, Jake Heggies Song Cycle The Deepest Desire and contemporary American art songs by Chester Biscardi.

Music in the Rough

OnThursday, Oct. 8the NSU University Singers will perform a concert titled, Music in the Rough, the second installment of the choral music series. The concert will take place at7 p.m. at the Arrowhead Mall in Muskogee, 501 N. Main St.

The theme of the series, Music in the Rough, is based upon the idea of taking traditional choral music from the concert hall and performing it in non-traditional, rough spaces.

This concert follows last years performance that took place in the Stuteville Ford service bay area.
