NSU Offers Chance To Study In Russia
TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University is offering an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to spend two weeks studying Russian culture as part of a study abroad partnership with the Upper Volga Institute in July.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will offer an insiders glimpse of Russian history, culture and business that few visitors ever experience, said Dr. Jon Shapiro, Professor of Marketing and trip sponsor.
Participants in the trip will stay in the 1,000-year-old city of Tver, with trips to Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novgorod. Students will visit key business sectors within Russia and be connected with targeted areas of interest within the country.
Russia is Oklahomas sixth largest trading partner, so students who plan on entering the business field can learn more about the growing connections between us, said Shapiro, who has traveled to Russia numerous times since 1999. Russia is a fun place to travel and this significant region is ethnically diverse, so our students can see many different subcultures interacting at once. The climate and scenery at that time of year is traditionally incredible with minimal darkness at night.
The cost of the trip is estimated at between $2,200 and $2,400, which includes airfare, hotels, food and all expenses within Russia. Students can earn three credit hours in marketing, business, MBA and liberal arts programs. Tuition is not included in the price, though tuition waivers are available for students on a first-come first-served basis.
