Summer Volunteer Opportunity at Centennial Camps
Summer Volunteer Opportunity at Centennial Camps
TAHLEQUAH This summer, Northeastern State University will offer the Tahlequah community several Centennial Summer Camps for children. The camps are currently looking for volunteers to assist with the summer activities.
It is a great way to get involved in the community and we are really going to need as much help as we can get, said Jamie Hall, Collinsville graduate student and Centennial summer camp director.
Four different camps are scheduled from July 6-31, running Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The camp topics include visual arts, performing arts, science and nature and a bookworm camp that will concentrate on literature.
We are offering several different activities for the Centennial camps so volunteers can get involved in things that strike their interest as well, said Hall.
Student volunteers can apply this toward service learning hours or possibly as one of their internships for school credit.
Students will need to speak to their academic advisors and get this approved through them if they want it to count as their internship, said Dr. Dana Eversole, associate professor of mass communication. They will also need to be sure that they enroll in the summer internship class so that they get their three hours credit for class.
Internships require 160 hours of completion for academic credit.
The camps will take place on the Tahlequah campus. The camps are separated into two age groups, one for third- through fifth-grade students and another for sixth- through eighth-grade students.
These camps are going to be a good thing not only for Tahlequah, but for NSU as well, said Hall. It is our school and we should be involved.
