NSU Names 2008-2009 Outstanding Freshmen

TAHLEQUAH Ten students were recently named the 2008-2009 Outstanding Freshmen at Northeastern State University.

This award honors first year students who have made contributions to campus and the community while maintaining high academic standards. Recipients must exemplify dedication to campus and community life through involvement in on-campus organizations and activities, as well as community functions. Recipients must also demonstrate high academic standards by holding a minimum GPA of 3.25.

The office of First Year Experience selected the ten finalists to receive the Outstanding Freshmen awards. In conjunction with the Outstanding Senior Award ceremony, the top Outstanding Male and the Outstanding Freshman Female will be announced. This year the ceremony will be located in the Net Auditorium on Saturday April 25 at 10:30 a.m.

Teesha is the daughter of Jamey and Crystal Hothouse. She is a member of NAB where she serves as Administration Chairman, Presidents Leadership Class, Northeastern Student Government Association and Delta Zeta Sorority. Teesha is also a RiverHawk Ambassador.

Casey is the son of John and Kim Dillard. Casey is a member of the Presidents Leadership Class, Northeastern Activities Board and Lambda Chi Alpha where he serves as Risk Manager, High Iota. He is also a RiverHawk Ambassador and involved in intramural sports.

Megan is the daughter of Todd and Firelei Edmonds. Megan is involved with Northeastern Activities Board where she served as Centennial Chairman, Presidents Leadership Class and Delta Zeta Sorority where she is the pledge class president as well as RiverHawk Ambassadors. She was also involved in the Founders Day Focus Group and assisted with the planning of the student celebration.

Rebecca is the daughter of Pam and Time McNeil. Rebecca is involved in the University Community Chorus, Baptist Collegiate Ministry and she is a University Singers member where she assists with recruiting potential musically-inclined students. Rebecca also helped with NSU Welcome Week activities where she assisted with Merchant Mall.

Chrishelle is the daughter of Richelle Hall and James Drew Sr. She is a RiverHawk Ambassador and is a member of the Pre-Professional Health Club. Chrishelle is involved in Chi Alpha, the NSU Volunteer Center and Northeastern Student Government Association where she serves on the Advocacy Commission.

Tori is the daughter of Perry and Vickie Proctor. She is involved with Presidents Leadership Class, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Northeastern Heart Association and Northeastern Activities Board where she serves on Hot Topics Committee. Tori is also a RiverHawk Ambassador.

Beau Beathard

Beau is the son of Trey and Trish Beathard. Beau is on the NSU football team where a freshman defensive lineman is. He is also a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, RiverHawks for Christ and NEXUS where he serves as representative for student athletes.

DeeAnn Amlin

DeeAnn is the daughter of Debbie and Gene Amlin. DeeAnn is a member of the Presidents Leadership Class, the Majestic Dance Team and Northeastern Activities Board where she created and coordinated a recycling competition between 16 offices on campus, a Trash to Treasures art show, and served as mediator for the Christmas Angel Tree project. She is also involved at the NSU Volunteer Center.

Brent is the son of Gary and Jane Huggins. Brent is a member of the Presidents Leadership Class and is a RiverHawk Ambassador. He is involved with the NSU Wesley Foundation where he is the president, student intern and volunteers in the community. Brent is also involved with Northeastern Student Government Association and Northeastern Activities Board.

Daniel Adney

Daniel is the son of Hairl and Audrey Adney. Daniel is a member of the Presidents Leadership Class where he assisted with Centennial Celebrations and co-founded the PLC Tailgate. He is a RiverHawk Ambassador as well as a peer leader and a member of the drama team for 20/Twenty Youth Ministries. Daniel is in Lambda Alpha Chi and Northeastern Activities Board.
