NSU Announces 2008-2009 Jack Kaufman Outstanding Seniors
TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University will present thirteen graduating seniors with Jack Kaufman Outstanding Senior Awards at a special ceremony on Saturday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m. in the NET Building Auditorium on the Tahlequah campus.
Considered a visionary by those who knew him, the late Jack Kaufman will go down in NSU history as one the institutions most active and influential alumni. In recognition of his exceptional support of the university and its alumni association, the Jack Kaufman Outstanding Seniors Awards are given to deserving seniors each year who are nominated by NSU faculty and staff.
Recipients have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher, have demonstrated their concern for Northeastern through campus involvement, and are considered all-around students who typify the spirit of NSU.
The students are:

Amanda Rachelle Adney
Oktaha
Elementary Education
Amanda, the daughter of Hairl and Audrey Adney, is involved in Presidents Leadership Class, Delta Zeta Sorority, Northeastern Activities Board, Student Oklahoma Education Association and Rookie Bridge Camp, where she served as director and volunteer. She has been named to the Deans honor roll and was a Homecoming queen candidate.

Amanda Faye Boston
Dewey
Hospitality and Tourism Management
Amanda, the daughter of Kenneth and Valerie Boston, is involved in Alpha Sigma Alpha, Northeastern Activities Board, Rookie Bridge Camp, Northeastern Student Government Association, NSU Majestics, Pom Squad and Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature. She is also a RiverHawk Ambassador and a peer instructor. Amanda won the title of NSU Homecoming Queen 2008, is a member of Rho Theta Sigma Honor Society and Alpha Chi Honor Society and is a Delta Mu Delta Letter Recipient. She has received the Alpha Sigma Alpha 5 Founders Award, Northeastern State University Top 5 Greek Female, Honor Society Award and Outstanding Chapter Member of Alpha Sigma Alpha.

Andella Lynn Doe

Hospitality and Tourism Management
Andella, the daughter of Brian and Sandra Doe, is involved in Presidents Leadership Class, Delta Zeta Sorority, Panhellenic, Northeastern Activities Board, Rookie Bridge Camp, Majestics and NSU Pom squad. Andella is a freshman orientation peer leader and a RiverHawk ambassador. She is also a member of Rho Theta Sigma Honor Society and is the Delta Zeta Rising Star 2006.

Lindsey Kaye Everett

Elementary Education
Lindsey, the daughter of Linda Kaye Everett and George Everett, is involved in Presidents Leadership Class, Delta Zeta Sorority, Northeastern Activities Board, Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students, Northeastern Student Government Association, Rho Theta Sigma Honor Society and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. She is a peer leader instructor and a Rookie Bridge Camp volunteer. Lindsey is also on the Presidents Honor Roll, Deans Honor Roll, and has received the Delta Zeta Sorority Academic Award.

Gentry, the daughter of Dwight and Phyllis Henry, is involved in Delta Zeta Sorority, NSU Honors Program, Northeastern Student Government Association, American Indian Science & Engineering Society, College Democrats, Intramural Athletics and Rho Theta Sigma Honor Society. She is also a college strategies peer leader and a Rookie Bridge Camp volunteer. Gentry received the NSU Student Activity Award 2008, NSUs Top 5 Greek Women 2008, Delta Zeta Regional RCC Award 2008, Homecoming Queen 2007, Delta Zeta Regional New Member Scholarship Award 2006, 2006 Female Greek Freshman of the Year and is on the Presidents Honor Roll.

Christopher Dean Howk

Christopher, the son of Mickey and Sherry Howk, is a member of the Oklahoma Student Education Association, Phi Theta Kappa, Oklahoma FCCLA Alumni Board of Directors, Kappa Delta Pi, Oklahoma Education Association and National Education Association. He is the recipient of the Dr. Joe E. White Presidential Leadership Award, the George and Donna Nigh Institute Scholarship, NSU Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship and was named to Whos Who Among American Colleges and Universities.

Michael Wayne Johnson

Fire and Emergency Services, minor in Safety Management
Michael, the son of Tom and Laurie Simmons, is involved in the Presidents Leadership Class, America Society of Safety Engineers, Safety & Environmental Management Association, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Intramural Sports, Northeastern Student Government Association, Rookie Bridge Camp and Rho Theta Sigma Honor Society. He was named to the Deans Honor Roll, NSU Top Greek Male 2007-2008 and Homecoming King 2008.

Derrek Tyler McGowen

Healthcare Administration, minor in Chemistry
Derrek, the son of Dan and Deborah McGowen, is affiliated with Rookie Bridge Camp, Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, the NSU Honors Program, Northeastern Student Government Association, Riverhawk Ambassadors and NSU Spirit Staff. He was the mascot 2005-2006. Derrek was named to the Deans Honor Roll and the Presidents Honor Roll. He has been awarded Academic Achievement in the Major Area of Healthcare Administration, Honor Society Award 2008 and Mr. NSU Scholarship Pageant Mr. Congeniality 2008.

Dustin Timothy McGowen

Political Science, minor in Mass Communication
Dustin, the son of Dan and Deborah McGowen, is involved in Tau Kappa Epsilon, Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature, Northeastern Student Government Association, Oklahoma Student Government Association, NSU Rifle Team, NSU ROTC, Interfraternity Council and Rookie Bridge Camp. He ran for the Republican nomination state representative in summer 2008. Dustin was also the OIL House Best Freshman Runner-Up spring 2006 and was elected president of the Student Senate in the spring of 2008.

Jennifer, the daughter of Jim and Elisha Pelton, is involved in the Northeastern Student Speech Language Hearing Association, Oklahoma Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association. She was named the 2008 Oklahoma Speech-Language Hearing Associations Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year, Tahlequah City Hospitals Gold Coin Award for Outstanding Patient Service and received an NSU Honor Society Award.

Colby Lee Robertson

Colby, the son of Damon and Leah Robertson, is involved in the Presidents Leadership Class, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Management Club, Entrepreneurship Club, Rookie Bridge Camp, Northeastern Activities Board, Baptist Collegiate Ministries and Intramural Sports. Colby is also a freshman college strategies peer instructor. He is a member of Rho Theta Sigma Honor Society and Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society and is on the Deans Honor Roll.

Kryistal, the daughter of Shannon and Anita Sanders, is involved with Army ROTC, Ranger Team, Rifle Team, Color guard, Kappa Phi Christian Sorority, Northeastern Student Government Association and Baptist Collegiate Ministries. She is also involved in the Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society and Rho Theta Sigma Honor Society. She has been named to the Presidents Honor Roll and Deans Honor Roll. Kryistal has also received the Platinum Athlete Award, Cadet Honors, LTC Kenneth Stauss Memorial Ranger Award, Association of the United States Honor Roll, Sons of the American Revolution and Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction Award.

Sara, the daughter of Dennis and Deborah Snell, is involved in the American Indian Science & Engineering Society, The Indian University Scholars Society and NSU Center for Tribal Studies. Sara has been awarded the NSU Student Activity Award, The Pocahontas Medical Scholarship, The Trail of Tears Scholarship, OJ & Mary Christine Harvey Scholarship, Dr. Warren Gwartney Memorial Scholarship and the Etha Tritthart Sedar Scholarship.
