NSU Delegation Receives Award At Model UN Conference

TAHLEQUAH Four Northeastern State University students recently won a Distinguished Delegation Award at the National Model United Nations Conference, held April 5-9 in New York City.

The members of the NSU delegation were Tony Boese, junior, political science major; Zach Kelly, sophomore, political science major; Johnny Aman, sophomore, political science major; and Jared Rusk, sophomore, physical science major.

The NSU Model United Nations Program faculty advisor, Assistant Professor of Political Science Dr. Ron Becker remarked that this is a truly a great achievement for our program. Northeastern State University has left its mark on the Big Apple. This is our first trip to the National Conference, and given the relative youth of our delegation, the award is much unexpected.

The delegation received support to attend the conference from NSU President Dr. Don Betz, the MUN programs original advisor, as well as College of Liberal Arts Dean Dr. Paul Westbrook and Social Science Department Chair Dr. Chuck Ziehr.

The annual National Model United Nations Conference (NMUN) in New York City is the most demanding conference of its kind and world-renowned for debates challenging the best students of international diplomacy.

The 2009 Conference hosted nearly 5,000 students from over 320 institutions, with about half of the delegates coming from outside the U.S.
