NSU Homecoming Week kicks off Oct. 25

Northeastern State Universitys 2015 Homecoming, themed Unmask Your School Spirit, will be a fun-filled week of activities.

It begins with Paint the Town Green, onSunday Oct. 25from2-5 p.m. at Norris Park, in Tahlequah.

Student organizations will compete in a school spirit contest by painting the windows of local businesses downtown with NSUs school color: green.

The excitement continues on Monday Oct. 26, at6 p.m.with the BancFirst Street Party at the Bill Willis Parking Lot on Grand Avenue.

There will be fireworks and fun booths for children, as well asa caricatureartist and a Chili Cook-Off.

All events are free and we would love to see the community come out and have fun, Heather Wallace, a student committee member for homecoming week, said.

OnTuesday Oct. 27from8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Second Century Square, Mask the Streets is next.

Mask the Streets, put together by the Northeastern Activities Board, is a chalk drawing competition where individual students compete by drawing something that relates to or represents theHomecomingtheme.

The Pep Rally and Bonfire follows on Thursday Oct. 29, at Beta Field from7 p.m.

Katherine Nash, the activitys head committee member and student, revealed the festive theme for the evening is Lets roast mallows and party smore.

Attendees can expect to interact with alumni, community members, Rowdy, all while enjoying treats, outdoor games, prizes, music, the NSU spirit squad, a marching band and the bonfire.

It will be a traditional night where we celebrate in advance for the football team and give them our support, Nash said.

OnFriday, Oct. 30, the Alumni Associations Emerald Ball takes place at the NSU Event Center.

The Emerald Ball is NSUs formal green tie gala benefiting student scholarships. It will be an evening of fine dining and jewelry giveaways, while celebrating NSUs distinguished alumni.

The After Party Ball follows with a concert featuring country star Josh Turner.

The highly-anticipated Parade takes place the next day on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. in Downtown Tahlequah and passes through NSU campus.

For this event, NSU organizations and local businesses put together floats that pertain to the Homecoming theme.

The Tahlequah community is encouraged to participate in and attend the Homecoming Parade. You'll see students dressed up in colorful costumes and painted faces standing on incredibly decorated floats, Morgan Helterbrand, head of the Parade committee and student, said.

She added since this years theme has a masquerade motif; masks, gowns, and disguises will play a big role in the Parade.

It will be a great sight to see.

Following the Parade, everyone will be gathering south of the Doc Wadley Stadium for all things tailgate. Students, friends, family, community members and RiverHawk fans will come together in anticipation of the football game between NSU and the University of Central Oklahoma.

The game begins at1 p.m. at Gable Field.
