NSU victorious at debate tournament
(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- The Northeastern State University Speech and Debate team successfully competed in its first tournament of the competitive season at the multi-state tournament which took place Oct. 2325 at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Gemini Creason brought home two first place prizes in Program of Oral Interpretation, second and third place in After Dinner Speaking, two first positions in Critical Analysis, a first and third place in Impromptu Speaking and fourth in Dramatic Interpretation.
Creason also qualified and won two second place Pentathlon trophies, meaning she competed and excelled in over five events each day.
Competing against schools from all over the south in this academic activity, the small but mighty team brought home a combined 27 trophies from the two days of competition.
They are off to an incredible start, already shattering records for NSU, which is an impressive achievement considering it is only the first tournament of the season.
Connor White took first and third in poetry, two second place prizes in prose and brought home a total of four Top Novice Awards.
Anthony Woodall achieved a third and fourth place in After Dinner Speaking, fifth and third in Informative, and fifth in Impromptu Speaking.
With such achievement, the team also won two second place awards for Top Oklahoma School to compete in this tournament.
The competitive academic team has been working diligently all summer and during the fall semester to prepare for tournaments. They are looking forward to the next competition at Tulsa Community College fromNov. 6-8.
