NSU Theatre Company in Rehearsals for The Dead Guy

TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State Universitys Theatre Company is currently in rehearsals for Eric Cobles The Dead Guy, which will run Oct. 1-4 at 8 p.m. at the NSU Playhouse.

TV producer, Gina Yaweth, is in trouble. Her latest reality TV show has tanked, and the network is losing its last nerve. Unless she finds a hit, shes out of a job. Eldon Phelps, however, is already out of a job. His girlfriend has dumped him and hes on the outs with half the town. So when Gina offers Eldon a million dollars to star in a reality show, he agrees, even though the show requires he kill himself at the end of the week. The Dead Guy is full of mind-bending twists that will keep your eyes glued to the stage until the last moment.

The way the subject showcases the limits that reality TV has pushed and the impact it has had on todays society is very relevant, said Director Robyn Pursley, coordinator of the NSU Theatre Department.

Leading the cast are NSU Theatre juniors James Asher, of Eufaula, playing the role of Eldon, and Callie Harris, of Tahlequah, doubling as Gina and set designer for the production. Both are accomplished veterans of the department.

I am really excited to have the male lead, said Asher. The show is a good commentary on todays society.

Harris looks forward to the challenge of designing the production.

I view set design as a sort of puzzle game, she said. Ive designed sets for the childrens show before, but this set is for a more intimate space.

Also appearing in the show are NSU Theatre seniors Natalie Morgan, of Muldrow, and Lindsay Morrow, of Okmulgee, juniors Jeremiah Stuart, of Eufaula, Rachel Dawson and Krystle Williams, of Kellyville, sophomore Anthony Inkelaar, and freshmen Daniel Woodworth, of Siloam Springs, Ark., Rachel Brown, of Tahlequah, and Todd Thomas, of Sulphur Springs, Ark.

Tickets are $5, and special discounts will be available for students. Come and see the dark, edge-of-your-seat comedy that Variety magazine calls brutal and inspiring.
