Celebration of Teaching program returns to NSU on Jan. 26
(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- The 17th annual Celebration of Teaching program returns to Northeastern State Universitys Tahlequah campus on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Each year the event attracts hundreds of young students and their teachers to campus to learn about the education field.
The program aims to assist public school students, especially minorities, to have early, positive experiences with a college and with those who educate teachers.
The keynote speaker for the day is Shawn Sheehan, 2015-2016 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year. He is also one of the finalists for the 2016 National Teacher of the Year.
After his presentation, middle and high school students will participate in hands-on workshops presented by College of Education faculty, teacher candidates and other NSU faculty.
The event promises to be a hands-on, interactive workshop for students and teachers that promotes the rewarding experiences of learning and teaching.
There will also be an opportunity to learn more about college life.
Dr. Tobi Thompson, director of Capitola Wadley Reading & Technology Center, said the experience would inspire students and teachers alike.
We are eager to share an exciting day with students and teachers who aspire to careers in the field of education.
Lunch will be provided for the first 200 registered attendees.
The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the NSU Center for Performing Arts and will conclude at 2 p.m. at the University Center. Parking arrangements have been made for school buses and a limited number of private vehicles. The drop-off and pick up point for buses is the circle drive at the University Center.
That evening, families are invited to the Reading & Technology Center for Family Literacy Night with author and storyteller Tim Tingle from 6-7 p.m. All children in attendance will receive a free book.
