Northeastern Sponsors Employment Resource Fairs

Northeastern State University is joining area agencies to produce the first-ever Employment Resource Fair - an Outreach for People Affected by a Recent Job Loss in Muskogee and Wagoner Counties, as well as the city of Broken Arrow.

The Wagoner County event is set for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 14 at the NSU-Broken Arrow campus, 3100 E. New Orleans, Building A. The Muskogee County will be held 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 22 at the Muskogee Civic Center, 425 Boston Ave.

Organizers plan a number of breakout sessions and workshops to help individuals with updating resumes, networking and entrepreneurship.

Nanette Robertson, executive director of Eastern Workforce Investment Board, said she has been in the same situation as those who are currently unemployed.

I was on the program I am currently in charge of now, said Robertson. I have gone through what the unemployed are going through now.

Robertson said Eastern Workforce Investment Board plans to help facilitate sessions and help with the marketing for potential employers.

We work directly with employers, said Robertson. Our role is convener - pull it all together.

Robertson encourages individuals to come and get as much as possible from the sessions.

There are many new ways to find employment, she said. The social networks like Facebook and Twitter and great examples.

Organizations present will represent career, education and retraining needs; budgeting and debt reduction information, starting a business/entrepreneurship; basic needs services; city/utility organizations; and general heath and well being.

Companies that have jobs openings are welcome to participate to recruit prospective employees.
