Northeastern State University Athletics is the target of a new sports radio program to air on 97.1 FM-The Sports Animal. RiverHawk Talk broadcasts Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. beginning August 9 and running through May. The program features commentary on current Northeastern State athletics news and on-air guests such as alumni, coaches and athletes.
The Sports Animal is the number-one ranked sports show in the Tulsa market, and we felt it would be a good match for both our demographic and our new athletics branding campaign, said Scott Pettus, Assistant Director of Athletics.
Pettus and Bill Huddleston, both long-time voices of Northeastern State Athletics, are featured commentators for the program.
The metro Tulsa area is heavily populated by our alumni and they have told me that they crave more updates about RiverHawks Athletics, explains Jeff Konya, Athletics Director. This radio show provides a behind-the-scenes look at the department on a weekly basis.
Live broadcasts of play-by-play coverage for both Northeastern State football and mens and womens basketball continues to air on game days on Lakes Country 102.1 FM. Konya also appears weekly on the Coaches Corner on Lakes Country 102.1 each Friday morning.
Our partnership with Lakes Country 102.1 FM is vital to our success, says Konya, and hopefully The Sports Animal relationship will have similar positive effects in the Tulsa Metro area.
The Sports Animal will re-broadcast football games on Saturday evenings.
Audio coverage of all Northeastern State football and basketball games will soon be available via the Athletic Departments new website, goriverhawksgo.com.
You can be in Washington D.C. or Spokane, Washington, or sitting at the corner at Danos and listen to live RiverHawks sports coverage, said Huddleston.
RiverHawk Talk kicks off its inaugural show Sunday, August 9 at 9 a.m. with Northeastern State guests Coach Kenny Evans and Danny Johnson, Director of Alumni Services.
