NSU Hosts Study Abroad In Paris
NSU Hosts Study Abroad In Paris
TAHLEQUAH French culture, history and cuisine are a few of the reasons to sign up for Northeastern State Universitys Living Literature Study Aboard in Paris scheduled for summer 2009.
Students will tour museums, visit historic locations and dine on French cuisine while reading the works of some of the greatest French authors, including Victor Hugo, Voltaire and Simone de Beauvior. Students will earn three hours of credit for participation in the trip based on participation in readings and reflective writings while in Paris.
All visits to locations in the city will be related to the readings. Students will be encouraged to explore the shops, gardens, parks, Metro stations, and open-air markets of Paris as much as the museums and expositions. Students will receive instruction on the French expectations for politeness so that they can experience the warmest welcome from Parisians while exploring the city.
Students will stay at the Holiday Inn Saint Germain des Pres, which is located in the Latin Quarter area in the center of the city. The hotel is within walking distance of Notre de Dame, the Louvre Museum, the Seine River and Luxembourg Garden.
The trip is coordinated by Dr. Bridget Cowlishaw, associate professor of Languages & Literature at NSU. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma in 1998 and did her dissertation research at the National Archives in Paris during the summer and spring of 1997. She has visited Paris frequently and is an ardent member of les Amis de Robespierre.
To participate in the study abroad program, students must be enrolled at NSU. Cost of the trip is approximately $2,500 per person, which includes round trip air fare, a three-star hotel room, breakfasts and transportation in Paris.
