For the second consecutive year, Northeastern State University hosts Oklahoma Research Day on its Broken Arrow campus. The event is Nov. 13 and the deadline for abstract submission is Oct. 12, 11:59p.m.. Dr. Tom Jackson, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, coordinates the event and spoke of its continued growth.
Last year when we hosted Oklahoma Research Day, we had almost 600 research posters and about 800 people attended the banquet, Jackson said. Those were the largest numbers ever, and we received posters from 41 institutions and collaborations from five international universities. Oklahoma Research Day is now viewed as the premier event for creativity, innovation and research within the State.
Initially conceived to showcase research conducted at Oklahomas regional universities, Oklahoma Research Day now reaches a larger audience.
It has grown to such an extent that virtually all colleges in the state and many in the region are submitting their abstracts and presenting their research, Jackson said. Its a great opportunity to show off the regional universities, but it also allows presenters to network with other professionals in their disciplines. A lot of collaborative efforts come from this networking.
NSU President Don Betz said the university was honored to again host the event.
As our Centennial Year draws to a close and we articulate our revised values, mission and vision, we are embracing a culture of learning and discovery that is exemplified by the gathering of the state's university and college students to demonstrate their research, Betz said. It is a day for Oklahoma to celebrate as this event actively encourages the skills and attitudes essential for growth and development of dynamic and creative economies. On this day, Oklahoma higher education ably demonstrates its capacities and value via some of our best and brightest students. Dozens of institutions will participate in this, the largest creative gathering in the state.
Oklahoma Research Day is sponsored by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Oklahoma Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research - National Science Foundation, the IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence National Institutes of Health, the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology and the Regional Universities of Oklahoma.
