The town hall meeting in the NSU-Broken Arrow Building A Auditorium with Rep. John Sullivan was not only an open forum to discuss health care, it was an orchestra of modern technology rivaling a major communications outlet.
NSU-BAs mission at the Aug. 31 meeting was to provide maximum access for those attending and to use technology to provide further reach to homes, schools and businesses in Broken Arrow.
Another aim was to demonstrate the viability of the auditorium as a technologically current asset for Broken Arrow.
A virtual connection between the auditorium and the ballroom allowed the congressmans message to be carried to both areas.
Two-way communication allowed both areas an opportunity to ask questions and participate.
A cable connection to Cox Communications and public access with the Broken Arrow Public Schools allowed the community to see the town hall via television.
The program was also broadcast in the NET Auditorium on the Tahlequah campus.
During the town hall meeting, the flow of communication was smooth and professionally managed. Sullivan, wearing a lapel microphone, paced effortlessly around the stage.
Students and citizens asked Sullivan questions through two microphones placed in the auditorium, and another microphone in the ballrooms overflow area permitted questions to come from there.
E-mail questions, reviewed by Sullivans staff, were projected on the video screen for all to read and for Sullivans responses.
All mediums operated together to create a superb unison of communication.
