Second Annual Womens Financial Security Seminar at NSU-BA - Oct. 23
By Eric Covey, NSU Staff Writer
The Second Annual Womens Financial Security Seminar, hosted by State Farm Insurance and Northeastern State University, is Oct. 23 at the Broken Arrow campus.
This event offers workshops in financial areas such as estate planning and investing. Top State Farm professionals and NSU instructors will be joined by Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor, KJRH anchorwoman Karen Larsen and State Farm VPs Rendi Black and Margie Southard. These women have stories to tell and each has overcome hardships to emerge a better person and a role model for young women today.
Whether you're planning for retirement or learning the fundamentals of investing, the information in this seminar could be life-changing. Topics include investing and estate planning. These discussions can also help women who wish to build an investment portfolio.
The seminar also offers tips to help women with issues such as child care and health care.
Most full-time students work part-time jobs with no benefits; many working-class families cannot afford health insurance beyond a prescription co-pay card. These health care challenges to financial security will be included in the discussion.
Women make 80 percent of the home-buying decisions for homes priced $180,000 - $500,000, yet less than 66 percent have saved for their retirement, said Dr. Roger Collier, associate professor at NSU. Thats an issue that we can begin to address through this seminar.
There are over 9 million female-owned businesses in America, generating more than $2.3 trillion in annual revenue. According to the National Foundation for Women Business Owners, women now start twice as many companies as men.
Regular admission is $25; $15 for NSU students. A plate lunch will be served.
