Northeastern State Athletic Department's benefit auction Oct. 8

By Sean Rowley, NSU News Coordinator

Former Oklahoma State basketball coach Eddie Sutton is the guest speaker at Northeastern State University's benefit auction for the Athletic Department on Oct. 8 at 6 p.m.

Northeastern State Athletic Director Jeff Konya said the department was grateful for donated items and packages, and proceeds would help fund facility upgrades, operations and scholarships.

"We do have some costs tied to some of the items," he said. "But for the most part it has been the generosity of our staff members, the local community, companies and our alumni."

The event is in the Rozell Ballroom in the University Center and begins with a silent auction during which hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served. Results of the silent auction will be determined at 7:15 pm. Dinner begins at 7:30 pm followed by the live auction and comments from Sutton.

Admission is $30 for individuals or $300 for a 10-seat table; however, paying attendees receive a $30 credit to enhance bids at the silent auction.

"So really, they could get their dinner, drinks, the experience and meet Coach Sutton for free and walk away with a quality item," Konya said.

Konya wants to make the benefit auction a premiere event on Tahlequah's annual agenda.

"I've been around some universities where the auction and the sports dinner have become a staplesomething that the folks in the community really look forward to," he said. "I think we're well on our way toward producing a quality event of the highest order. After people become accustomed to what this is about, we hope it will become one of those days they circle on the calendar and plan for."
