Northeastern State announces WTS scholarship opportunity

The Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of the Women's Transportation Seminar is awarding a graduate student scholarship worth $1,500 and two undergraduate scholarships worth $1,000 each.

The WTS offers these scholarships to women pursuing careers in transportation. These three scholarships are open to eligible college or university students in Texas and Oklahoma.

The awards are made possible through contributions from corporate WTS members. The scholarships are competitive and based on the applicants specific transportation involvement and goals, job skills, and academic record. Minority candidates are encouraged to apply. Past applicants have had backgrounds in civil, mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineering, as well as urban planning, public policy, public safety, and emergency response.

Local WTS chapter scholarship winners are eligible for a corresponding international scholarship. Four International scholarships are available. The international graduate award is $6,000, the international undergraduate award is $3,000 and the international leadership awards for graduate and undergraduate students are $3,000 each. Because the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter has no local award corresponding to the international graduate leadership scholarship, students are encouraged to submit applications for both graduate awards.

Applications may be downloaded from www.nctcog.org/trans/wts/. The application form and accompanying transcript, personal statement and any letters of recommendation must be postmarked no later than Nov. 6. Notification is expected in December.
