2NEWS anchor Karen Larsen is one of several speakers slated for the Second Womens Financial Security Seminar held Oct. 23 at the Northeastern State University Broken Arrow campus. Larsen joins featured speakers and presenters Kathy Taylor, City of Tulsa Mayor; Rendi Black, Vice President of Agency, State Farm Insurance; Margie Southard, Vice President of Operations, State Farm Insurance; and NSU faculty Julia Kwok, Assistant Professor of Finance and Dr. Denise Deason-Toyne, Associate Professor of Business Law and Certified Financial Planner.

Hosted by State Farm Insurance and NSU, the event offers workshops in various financial areas, including estate planning and investing.

Larsen joined 2NEWS Works For You in May of 1996, and is currently anchor of Channel 2 News at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Her work on these newscasts has earned three Emmy awards, as well as honors from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters. Karen also produces reports for the 2-Works for You Healthcast series which has earned awards from the Tulsa City-County Health Department and the Community Health Foundation.

A recipient of the distinguished William R. Burleigh award from parent company E.W. Scripps, Larsen was recognized for her local commitment and dedication to community service which spans more than 20 years. Her community service efforts span numerous local organizations, including Tulsa Project Woman, Tulsa Public Schools, Tulsa Police Department, Youth Services of Tulsa, Community Service Council, Tulsa Womens Foundation, Parent Child Center and Tulsa Garden Center.

Larsen looks forward to telling her story to seminar participantsfrom the challenges she faced as a teenager and young journalist, to her current success as a working mother and wife.

I am honored to share my experiences, share each others experiences, as well as each others mistakes, said Larson.
