Administration Building receives facelift
Those visiting Northeastern State University's Administration Building may notice some upgrades in the appearance and function of the structure.
Administration is the location of NSU President Don Betz's office. He said the work was needed, especially because the building often makes a first impression.
"It is one of NSU's 'front porches' or entry ways for our visitors and guests," he said. "The building initially served as a student union over its many decades of existence. Many who visit us come here."
The paint on the walls was old and the carpeting even older. Those were replaced. With the university's Centennial under way, Dr. Amber Fite and university archivists Vickie Sheffler and Brenda Cochran elected to celebrate NSU's past. Historic photos of structures and students were reprinted and hang throughout the building.
"Before the improvements, Administration always struck me as a very cold building," Fite said. "It was just very dark and very cold and we wanted to make it more friendly."
Visitors entering through the main doors will see the application of some high tech, and Stobbe Design built and installed award displays.
"We upgraded way-finding with the digital campus map inside the Administration lobby thanks to the good people in Information Technology," Betz said. "I am particularly pleased to be honoring the Circle of Excellence and Model the Way recipients in the public displays for all to see and appreciate their valued contributions to learning here. New recipients will be added each year."
Betz formulated many ideas for the Administration Building's facelift, but he said the enhancement and implementation of concepts demanded the dedication of many.
"In all, thanks to the diligent work of the Physical Plant staff and Archives, and many others, we have revitalized our welcome to those who visit us and improved the environment for those who work in the building each day," he said.
