NSU announces 9th Annual Oregon Shakespeare Trip
(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- Northeastern State Universitys College of Liberal Arts and Department of Languages and Literature announce the ninth annual trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival scheduled forAug. 4-11, 2016.
This exciting study-away experience is set in Ashland, Oregon, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Cascade Mountains and the Rogue Valley. Students can earn three hours of undergraduate credit in English, Theatre or Humanities, or three hours of graduate credit in English during fall intersession.
"I take students to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival every year because of the response I get from students, said Dr. John Mercer, professor of English. They are excited and amazed to study plays through these live professional productions."
Students will see eight professional play productions. Shakespearean productions will include Hamlet, Twelfth Night, Richard II, The Winters Tale and Timon of Athens. Modern productions will include Vietgone, the story of Vietnamese refugees in the U.S. after the Vietnam War; Roe, a new play about the women behind the Roe v. Wade abortion case; and The Wiz, the 1975 smash-hit musical based on The Wizard of Oz.
"I was lucky enough to attend the Oregon Shakespeare trip in August of 2015 and for me, it was a moving and enriching experience unlike any other, Kate Forest, NSU student, said.

Additional activities in Oregon will include discussions with the actors, a backstage tour of the Oregon Shakespeare Festivals three state-of-the-art theatres, dining and shopping in picturesque downtown Ashland and a day trip to breathtaking Crater Lake National Park.
The cost of the trip, including roundtrip airfare to Oregon, ground transportation, lodging in a new suite-style dormitory at Southern Oregon University, tickets to all productions and the day trip to Crater Lake, is $1,600. The first 12 students who sign up for the trip and take the Study Away: Shakespeare course for credit will receive a discount of $150. Tuition and fees for the course are not included in the cost of the trip. Several partial scholarships are available for students.
